Commit To Get Fit: Stron incentives to be 'Loser'

  1. my first post at lauradionjones.com blog for Elgin's Biggest Loser Weight Loss contest.

    Hi everyone,

This is Common Sense, Independent, Clarence Hayward of Elgin posting. I am about a 40 year Elgin resident who is a 56 year old, big bellied, baby boomer who weighed in at 197 lbs on my 5 ft. 6 in. frame.

After 33 years of walking miles daily around Eagle Foods and receiving a weight lifting workout putting away my produce deliveries as a produce manager, Eagle went bankrupt.

For the last 6 years I have been working behind a computer screen as a fraud analyst and the farthest I walk is to the cafeteria. The heaviest thing I lift is my phone headset each day so I estimate I probably have 40 extra pounds all in my belly. I don't look overweight anywhere else except my big, baby boomer belly.

My hobby and passion is posting ways to slim down local government on www.dailyherald.com and the Elgin Courier News online websites as well as at www.elginite.org.

The reason I am in the contest is to slim down my belly and hopefully win 250.00 for either my church, Highland Fellowship Church, or their preschool through eight grade school, Highland Christian Academy, in Elgin on Highland Ave. about a block East of Randall Road, or for their Royal Rangers scout program, where by donating to the Rangers the district will match the gift.

I am also hoping that I will be able to slim down myself so that as we approach the November elections I can ask all of the Elgin residents in Cathy Hurlbut's District 19 Kane County Board District to please consider voting me into her long time held board seat so that I might continue my passion and try and slim down the obesity problem that currently exists in Kane County govenment payroll so that the taxpayers can try and fatten their wallets for a change.

I have been walking both to and from work which is 2 to 2 and a half miles one way depending which way I go since I got weighed in for the contest. I am trying to limit my carbs to under 35 a day.

I use to walk home from work before the winter but my body is so out of touch with that walk that so many muscles that are being reawakened are aching like crazy that I almost feel like I have the flu. I know that in a week or two that will end so I am just fighting through it.

Friday night as I was soaking my aching muscles in my bathtub listening to local Dundee-Elgin Y103.9 I heard that my wife and I were one of five couples who had sent their 70's era picture to the radio station and had gotten the most votes to win their 70's contest.

IF YOU WERE ONE OF THE VOTERS MY WIFE AND I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR VOTING FOR US.

In about a month we will be having dinner, drinks, and then staying for their 70's Disco Dance Party that I believe will be broadcast from the Baker Hotel. We will be dancing the night away on the Baker's colored lighted dance floor.

I am thinking of asking if I can have the dinner and a drink about a month later after the contest is over.

To top it off we win a free room for the night at the beautiful historic Baker Hotel.

This will be an early anniversary present for the Lady in my life for almost 36 years, Lord willing, Brenda Barton Hayward, Larkin High School Class of 1973.

She recently got on facebook I believe as Brenda Hayward.

    Brenda, I love you Babe.

Thanks for reading, more to come. Instead of bingeing on carbs, junk food, and sweets these days I binge on blogging.

    Common Sense, Independent, Clarence Hayward
